Wildflowers On Our Commons – Identification

Wildflowers On Our Commons – Identification

Would you like to be better at identifying wildflowers when you are out and about?  Join Wild Stroud for a talk and workshop on the fundamentals of identifying flowers from their characteristics.  We’ll explore things like the shape of the stalk and the leaves, how and where the leaves are attached to the stalks, how the flowers are joined to the stalk, the shape of the flowers, and the sepals and petals.  We’ll explore how to start identifying plants we don’t recognise in wildflower books and guides.  We will mostly work with common names as people seem to remember these better.

We’ll also cover insects which rely on which plants and their life cycles.

We’ll follow this talk with a walking workshop on one of our local nature reserves where we will spend time finding and identifying plants together.

This event is part of our talk and walk series.  Join us just for the talk or the walk/workshop or both.  The talk will take place from 0930 – 12.00 pm, there will then be a break for lunch and for Wild Stroud to clear up.  We will then reconvene at the walking location at 13:30 for about two hours.  The walk location may not yet be confirmed.  Lift sharing will be organised.
