Open Gardens May 20th and 21st 2023

We have a fabulous range of gardens for you to see this year.  From small and quirky, to steep, and flat and extensive.  Many of the locations will be offering activities as well as an opportunity to wander around the garden and see what people are up to.  Some of the events must be booked ahead of time.  These are listed as events below.  Click on each garden for a description, activities in the garden and directions.

Entry to all gardens and most activities is Free.  All donations will go to the Wild Stroud Urban Corridor Project find out more.  Refreshments will be available at some locations, please have cash for these.  You can make donations online.  See below.

Directions

We have provided a street address, a Google Maps link and What3words.  Once close to the location look out for our flags and signs.  Our flags have our logo on them and our signs will have the garden number on them.

Please note that is an unexpected problem with access to Garden #14 A Buzz in Woodchester – The property is on Covent Lane, and the access to Convent Lane from the Nailsworth/Inchbrook end will be closed.  Please enter from the Woodchester end.  We will put up lots of signs to help you find it.

Gardens Open Saturday 20th May

These gardens are in and around Stroud Town and Bisley.  Gardens 1 -5 are within walking distance of Central Stroud.

Garden #01. on Castle Street, Stroud

Join in pond dipping, hoverfly lagoons, a talk on Understanding and Improving Soil and no-dig.

Garden #02. on Bisley Road, Stroud

Join the Moth Reveal and enjoy a tranquil town garden with meadows and trees where everything is recycled.

Garden #03. on Bisley Old Road, Stroud

Small ponds and a green sedum roof, and a mini woodland.  Stunning views from the garden across the valley.

Garden #04. on Horns Road, Stroud

A small garden home to at least 14 thriving micro ponds.  Teeming with wildlife, flowers and veg.

There’s a huge opportunity in churchyard to dedicate some space to nature.  Wander around All Saints and see where they are starting to create habitats.

These gardens are spread around the Stroud area.  Click on each one to see a location map and directions.  We have included in the details suggestions of other gardens you could combine with.  For instance, 17 and 18 are both up on the edge of Minchinhampton Common and close to the ice cream factory.

We’re running a Moth Trap overnight in this amazing garden.  Join us early to see the results and then enjoy a wander around the garden.

This garden won the Wild Stroud Wildlife competition in 2020, and Dave has continued to add new features. Learn how to make a solitary bee home

This wonderful eclectic garden is a must, a hidden gem.  Children and adults will love seeing how household items have been recycled into wildlife homes.  So much packed into a small space.

Just how much can you do for wildlife in a small front garden?  Come and see and stay for a chat.

With so many areas enriched for wildlife, the standout feature in this garden has to be the natural swimming pond. Enjoy a mini embroidery exhibition of works inspired the garden.

Garden #18. at Greenmarley, Pinfarthings

 Sunday 21st May 14.00 – 17.00

A garden of two halves, steep banks with poor soil leading down into thick clay.  This brilliantly designed garden is well worth the visit.  If you’d like to learn how to identify bees in your garden join GWT’s expert who will be onhand during the early afternoon to help you.
